At the MSU Museum, the 2024–2025 year was nothing short of transformative. While our physical building undergoes a major renovation, our spirit of innovation and connection has never been stronger. This year has proven that a museum is far more than its walls; it is a living, breathing community hub for creativity, dialogue, and discovery.
Taking the Museum Beyond Its Wall
Even as construction crews reimagine our space, we have expanded into the community like never before. From a bustling downtown pop-up gallery to initiatives across campus, we have worked to bring art, science, and technology directly to the people we serve.
One shining example was the MSUFCU Arts Power Up, a groundbreaking artist residency program created in partnership with the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), Arts MSU, and the STEAMpower Project. Its debut installation, Monumentum by Berlin-based artist Abel Korinsky, left audiences spellbound and showed how powerful it can be when creativity, research, and innovation collide.
Celebrating Culture, Creativity, and Community
Our commitment to inclusive, immersive experiences continued with beloved programs like First Fridays, which bring students together in joyful celebration, and exhibitions that spotlight cultural impact and heritage. Techno: The Rise of Detroit’s Machine Music resonated deeply, honoring a genre that is both a local treasure and a global phenomenon.
Through these programs, the Museum reaffirmed its role as a dynamic space where scholarship, culture, and community converge.
Powered by People
None of this would be possible without the remarkable people behind the work. From our staff and collaborators who dream big and deliver, to our donors and friends whose generosity fuels progress, every achievement this year reflects a shared vision of what museums can be.
Your support ensures the MSU Museum remains not just relevant, but a national leader in reimagining the future of academic museums.
Looking Ahead
As we prepare to reopen our renovated building in 2026, we carry forward an ambitious vision: to become a 21st-century collaboratory, a place where people explore, create, and learn across boundaries. We are not just preserving history. We are building the future of museums, together.
